The UK government has launched its biggest ever ad campaign to ensure businesses and the public are ready for Brexit.
The aim of the campaign is to ensure businesses understand what they might need to do ahead of the deadline to leave the EU that is currently on 31 October. The business target audience includes exporters to the EU as well as groups that need particular information including the legal profession and the equine industry.
The government’s own research found just 50% of the population think it’s likely the UK will leave the EU on 31 October.
The campaign, which is estimated to have cost around £100 million, will run across TV, social media, out-of-home, events and targeted road shows. The government has also launched an online tool that allows businesses to check what they need to do to be ready.
Michael Gove, chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, said: “Ensuring an orderly Brexit is not only a matter of national importance, but a shared responsibility. This campaign will encourage the country to come together to ‘Get ready for Brexit’ on 31 October.”
The Dutch government began its own business-related Brexit campaign in February using a furry blue monster and the tag line ‘make sure Brexit doesn’t sit – or lie – in your way’.
