UK professionals reveal their biggest workplace fears

Public speaking has been revealed as the country’s biggest fear in the workplace, according to research from Forward Role.

The ‘Face your fears week’ awareness campaign starts October 12, with 40 per cent of UK respondents citing public speaking as their biggest fear.

Interestingly, fear of interviews registered lower with 18-24 year-olds (17 per cent) than 44-54 year-olds (21 per cent).

Less pressing concerns included voicing grievances to your superior (10 per cent) and performance reviews (nine per cent).

Steve Thompson, MD at Forward Role Recruitment, offered advice on public speaking: “The only way to overcome that fear is to force yourself to do as much public speaking as you can. The idea being that each time you do it, you get a little more confident.”
