What’s changed?

This year’s Content Benchmarking Report reveals marketers are drowning in content. Jessica McGreal looks back on the last decade to find out what’s changed and where the industry is heading

1. Higher priority: content has become the number one task on marketers to do lists, and this is unlikely to change soon.

2. More channels: in 2004 we were living in a world without smartphones and the majority of social networks – including Twitter and LinkedIn – these channels unlocked new ways to start two-way conversations with customers.

3. Greater volume: B2B brands have now transformed into content publishers and thought leaders in their subject areas.

4. Improved tailoring: data analytics and marketing automation has made it easier for marketers to discover more about their target audience, and in turn tailor content to suit their needs.

5. Improved technology: the digital landscape has transformed completely in the last 10 years and this has meant content has become both more interactive and easier to measure.
